Isaiah 58:1-12

Hollen Red Background Stamped-Crop
"Cry loudly, do not hold back; raise your voice like a trumpet, and declare to MY people their transgression and to the house of Jacob their sins. " Yet they seek Me day by day and delight to know My ways, as a nation that has done righteousness and has not forsaken the ordinance of their God. They ask Me for just decisions, they delight in the nearness of God. 'Why have we fasted and You do not see? Why have we humbled ourselves and You do not notice?' Behold, on the day of your fast you find your desire, and drive hard all your workers. "Behold, you fast for contention and strife and to strike with a wicked fist. You do not fast like you do today to make your voice heard on high. " Is it a fast like this which I choose, a day for a man to humble himself? Is it for bowing one's head like a reed and for spreading out sackcloth and ashes as a bed? Will you call this an acceptable day to the Lord? "Is this not the fast I choose, to loosen the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, and to let the oppressed go free and break every yoke? " Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor in your house; when you see the naked, to cover him; and not to hide yourself from your own flesh? " Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your recovery will speedily spring forth; and your righteousness will go before you; the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard. " Then you will cry and I will answer, you will cry and He will say, 'Here I am.' If you remove the yoke from your midst, the pointing of the finger and speaking wickedness, and if you give yourself to the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then your light will rise in darkness and your gloom will become like midday. "And the LORD will continually guide you, and satisfy your desire in scorched places, and give strength to your bones; and you will be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water whose waters do not fail. Those from among you will rebuild the ancient ruins; You will raise up the age old foundations; and you will be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of the streets in which to dwell.

The verses in Isaiah 58, convict me and shine a bright light on the sin of apathy residing in my heart.
What is the transgression? What are we to cry loudly? The sin of self importance. The sin of indifference. The sin of chasing after fleeting pleasures. The sin of hiding a lighted lamp under the bed and not allowing it to shine forth. Luke 8:16.
The job we have been given is the job of restoration and renewal. Restoration to the areas where Truth stumbles and the people grope around in darkness during the noonday. Isaiah 59.
We are to bring the Light into the darkness, for it is in the darkness where the Light shines the brightest. The Light that penetrates to the brokenhearted and downcast drives out evil for evil can not stand to be near the Light. Jesus refers to himself as the Light of the world. His light always overtakes darkness. It only takes one candle to penetrate the darkest corner of humanity. If darkness is present it is because the Light has not entered or has been hidden under the bed of tolerance, indifference or self-importance. Another reason for darkness is sin and rebellion against God within the church. In Revelation we see Jesus warning some of the churches to repent or He will take away their lamp stand. Revelation 2:5 Is He calling us to remember the heights from which we have fallen, to repent and do the deeds we did at first? To turn away from ourselves and turn completely toward Him...

Lord, forgive me for being too busy and too focused on myself to go out and be a light in this dark world. Forgive me for downplaying my role as a mom, to the little ones you have entrusted me, to teach my children Truth and raise according to your precious Word. The Word which is profitable to teach, rebuke and train in righteousness. Forgive me for wanting to shelter them from the harsh realities of the world by keeping them from serving You out of fear. Lord, you have commanded us to be light in dark places. May we trust you as we go out into the community to be your hands and feet. May we get our hands dirty meeting the needs of those you put in our path. May I always worship you in Spirit and in Truth, not only meeting the needs of those around me, but worshiping you on your terms. May I find out what pleases you by being in your Word. For what are my deeds but filthy rags if presented to you on my terms while unconfessed sin reigns in my heart.
